I Have Not A Penny

by

I have not a penny, no food to eat and the rain pours down where I lay my head to sleep

My clothes are tattered, no shoes do I own and the nights are as cold as they are long

When I walk down the street not a kind face do I see; no, not even a smile that suggest someone might care for me.

They say I'm too poor and hardly worthwhile as they toss me aside as a love lost child

Oh but my heart sings out and such joy I have, for my Lord has stretched out his hand.

A crown of gold for my head and robes of white to wear instead

Yes they say I'm too poor and hardly worthwhile, as they once again toss me aside as some love lost child,

But today I'll stop and shout out loud to tell them all of these riches I've found

In loving memory of my mother
